Vastu house plans, without fighting the light.

Vastu and good architecture are not opponents. Most of the classical rules exist because they produce a cooler, better-lit house in this climate. Here is how we reconcile the two.

Why most vastu rules make climatic sense

Read the directional rules alongside the path of the sun over southern India and a pattern appears. A kitchen in the south-east catches early sun and stays out of the afternoon heat. A north-east opening brings in the softest light of the day. Heavy storage in the south-west shields the hottest wall. The tradition encodes climate knowledge, which is why we take it seriously rather than humouring it.

Which rules to hold, and which to trade

No plot satisfies every rule. When something has to give, this is the order we argue for.

Worth defending

Worth trading when the plot demands it

Where we push back.If following a rule would give you a bedroom with no cross-ventilation, or a living room that needs lights on at noon, we will say so. You will live in this house for thirty years. A plan that is technically compliant but unpleasant to inhabit has not served you.

South-facing plots are not a problem

A great many buyers walk away from south-facing plots, which is why they are often better value. A south-facing plot with the entrance placed correctly and deep shading over the southern glazing performs perfectly well. The deep cantilevered roofs we use exist partly for this reason — they let a south or west elevation carry large windows without cooking the rooms behind them.

Bringing your plan to us

If you already have a vastu consultant, bring them into the first conversation rather than the last. Reconciling directions at sketch stage costs nothing. Reconciling them after the foundation is set costs a great deal — see what changes actually cost.

Tell us about your land.

The first conversation is free, and we answer in Tamil or English.

Common questions

Do you build vastu-compliant houses?
Yes. We respect vastu and work it into the plan from the sketch stage rather than adjusting afterwards. If you have your own vastu consultant, we would rather they join the first conversation, because reconciling directions early costs nothing while changing them after the foundation is set is expensive.
Which vastu rules matter most in a house plan?
The entrance direction, the kitchen in the south-east, and keeping the north-east corner light and open. These three shape the whole plan and are the hardest to change later. Exact degree alignment and staircase position are far easier to trade when the plot demands it.
Is a south-facing plot bad for vastu?
No. South-facing plots are often better value precisely because buyers avoid them. With the entrance placed correctly and deep shading over southern glazing, a south-facing house performs perfectly well. Deep cantilevered roofs let a south elevation carry large windows without overheating the rooms behind.
What if vastu conflicts with good ventilation?
We will tell you plainly when it does. If a rule would leave a bedroom without cross-ventilation or a living room needing lights at noon, we recommend trading that rule. A plan that is technically compliant but unpleasant to live in has not done its job.
